Emily Study
House District 14
Albany County

Emily Study is a candidate running to represent House District 14, in Albany County.

She is running against Trey Sherwood, a local business leader and current House Representative who helped defeat the Freedom Caucus’ reckless proposed budget cuts during the 2026 legislative session.

Freedom Caucus funding

Emily Study’s campaign has received support from only five people, as of the most recent campaign finance reports.

Two of the five donations come from Dan and Carleen Brophy, who are far-right Teton County megadonors who helped finance the rise of the Freedom Caucus.

The Brophys each gave Study the maximum amount they could under law. Their contributions total nearly three quarters of Study’s overall campaign finances.

Selling public lands

Extremist politicians have been working for years to find ways to sell America’s public lands. Emily Study supports this effort.

Last year, U.S. Senator Mike Lee, of Utah, attempted to include a large-scale selloff of public lands in a Congressional budget bill. His excuse was that the land could be used for housing.

Sen. Lee’s proposal sparked outrage throughout the West and was ultimately defeated. However, other politicians have taken up the idea of selling public lands for housing.

One of these politicians is Emily Study.

On both her website and in her responses to candidate questionnaires, Study explains that she supports Sen. Lee’s idea to sell public lands.

Defunding our community

Emily Study supports reckless tax cuts that would defund critical public services in Albany County and harm our rural neighbors most.

In candidate questionnaires, Study explains that she supports Proposition One, which would cut Wyoming residential property taxes by 50 percent.

Property taxes fund firefighters, law enforcement, water and sewer districts, weed and pest control, county roads, libraries, K-12 schools, and more.

Many of these services are already underfunded in Albany County as a result of previous Freedom Caucus tax cuts. Proposition One would create more harm, and Emily Study supports it.

Banning books

According to candidate questionnaires, Emily Study supports the Freedom Caucus-backed effort to ban books that politicians find offensive in public and school libraries.

This is despite the fact that banning books is widely opposed in Albany County.

The Freedom Caucus has tried and failed to pass bills to ban books for each of the past several legislative sessions.

Families in Wyoming largely reject big government efforts to override teachers and librarians to censor and ban books.

Giving public money to private schools

Study is also a supporter of private school vouchers, which provide public taxpayer money to parents that they can use to send their kids to private schools that have no accountability or oversight.

Private school vouchers violate Wyoming’s constitution, but the Freedom Caucus passed a bill to create a voucher program anyway. The law is currently being challenged in court.

The vast majority of children in Albany County attend public schools, whose funding decreases as a result of the voucher program.

Most Wyoming students who attend private school live in Teton County. It is difficult to understand how defunding public schools to help Teton County private school students benefits the residents of House District 14.
